Work Overview
Peerless Automation were commissioned to modernise the lighting system aboard a 40-metre Alloy Yachts superyacht. While the original Dynalite installation remained highly capable, the owner's ambition was to move beyond conventional downlighting and create a richer, more atmospheric lighting experience.
The brief centred on introducing discreet architectural lighting within the yacht's existing interiors without compromising the craftsmanship, detailing or character of the original build. Every new lighting element needed to feel as though it had always belonged there.
Through a combination of bespoke engineering, intelligent control and carefully integrated linear lighting, the result is a fully reimagined lighting scheme that enhances atmosphere, usability and visual refinement while maintaining the reliability expected of a world-class sailing yacht.
The owner's ambition was to transform a predominantly functional lighting scheme into a sophisticated architectural lighting experience, enhancing atmosphere throughout the vessel while maintaining the reliability demanded by life at sea.
Architectural lighting was carefully woven into the yacht's joinery, furniture and architectural details, ensuring every new lighting element felt original to the vessel rather than added later.
Concealed linear lighting was carefully integrated throughout the vessel to provide soft ambient illumination and a more considered hierarchy of light. The result is an environment that transitions naturally from day to evening while enhancing comfort and atmosphere.
Rather than replacing the original Dynalite infrastructure, we carefully upgraded and expanded it. This approach preserved familiar interfaces and proven reliability while introducing significantly enhanced functionality and flexibility.

One of the project's defining challenges was introducing modern linear lighting within the yacht's intricate French-polished interiors. Custom profiles and bespoke installation techniques were developed to integrate continuous lines of light within decorative mouldings and architectural details, preserving the craftsmanship of the original build while introducing a distinctly contemporary aesthetic.
Every light source was selected to complement the yacht's architecture. Downlighting was upgraded using John Cullen Polespring fittings throughout the interior, with Quick Palladio luminaires specified for exposed exterior areas to ensure reliable performance in the demanding marine environment. Particular attention was given to the vessel's external staircases, where integrated tread lighting was introduced as part of a bespoke retrofit. The original teak stair nosings were carefully removed and replaced with custom rebated sections, allowing LED lighting to be discreetly recessed beneath each tread. The result is a subtle architectural detail that enhances both safety and atmosphere while appearing entirely original to the vessel.
While the yacht's original Dynalite keypads were retained, the underlying control system was completely rebuilt. With no original programming files available, the existing logic was reverse engineered and reprogrammed from scratch, delivering a more intuitive user experience while significantly expanding system capability.
Lighting control was standardised throughout the vessel, creating a consistent user experience regardless of location. Legacy controls were upgraded where required, while integration with Control4 enabled seamless interaction between the lighting system and the yacht's wider automation systems.

The flybridge offered an opportunity to create a more expressive lighting experience. The original single-function rope lighting was replaced with a digitally controlled LED system, allowing the space to transition effortlessly from relaxed evening ambience to vibrant entertainment settings. Behind the scenes, a digitally mapped lighting system enables precise control of colour, intensity and movement, creating a truly adaptable entertaining space. Fully integrated with the yacht's existing Control4 system, the lighting can be controlled from the vessel's iPads and mobile devices, providing complete flexibility at the touch of a button.
Whether hosting guests, enjoying sunset drinks or dining under the stars, the lighting can be tailored to suit the occasion. From subtle warm-white scenes to dynamic colour-changing effects, the system provides complete flexibility while maintaining the refined character of the yacht.
